In honor of National Ice Cream Day and these past few days of 90-degree weather, I'm sharing some of my favorite ice cream spots in the Boston area!
Toscanini's | Central Square | Cambridge
pictured here: Raspberry-Beet and Ginger Soft Serve Twist
other favorite flavors: Green Tea, B3, Grapenut Raisin
Toscanini’s is a nationally-renowned ice cream shop in Central Square in Cambridge serving up delicious and unique flavors like Green Tea, Ginger Snap Molasses, Ovaltine, and Earl Grey. Each day they usually have a soft-serve twist option in addition to chocolate and vanilla. For 4th of July weekend they had a Beet-Raspberry and Ginger twist, which was incredible. One of their most popular flavors (of hard ice cream) is B3: Brown Sugar, Brown Butter, and Brownies. It’s as good as it sounds.
Christina's | Inman Square | Cambridge
pictured here: Adzuki Bean and Coconut Butterfinger
other favorite flavors: Cookie Dough, Adzuki Bean, Khulfi
Christina’s is an amazing ice cream shop in Inman Square in Cambridge. They have delicious homemade ice cream and unique flavors like Adzuki Bean, Khulfi, Licorice, and Honey Lavender. They also make amazing ice cream cakes.
J.P. Licks | Several Locations in Boston and Greater Boston
pictured here: Strawberry Rhubarb and Brownie Batter
other favorite flavors: Cherry Garciaparra, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough
J.P. Licks is a super-popular Boston-area ice cream shop that originated in Jamaica Plain (hence “J.P.” Licks). They have over 10 locations and have even started to expand to the 'burbs with locations in Lynnfield, Wellesley, and Newton. They have awesome monthly flavor specials. This month Blueberry Pancakes and Syrup is one of them.
Gracie's Ice Cream | Union Square | Somerville
pictured here: Pop-tart Pourri in a Fluff Cone
other favorite flavors: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Brown Butter Almond Croissant
Gracie’s is a relatively new ice cream shop in Union Square in Somerville that was recently named Boston Magazine’s 2016 Best Ice Cream in Boston. I love Gracie’s because they change their menu frequently, they have super interesting flavors, and they make these really awesome toasted fluff cones.
Bar Boulud | Back Bay | Boston
pictured here: Mint Chocolate Cookie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Hazelnut Rocher Sundaes
Okay, so Bar Boulud really isn’t an ice cream place, but if you’re an ice cream lover you should go for their recently launched “Back Bay Sundaes.” They have three flavors: Mint Chocolate Cookie, Strawberry Shortcake and Hazelnut Rocher. All of them are amazing.
You probably noticed that I always get two flavors. My perspective on this is: why would I get one flavor when I could get two?
Happy National Ice Cream Day!
