The Action Kitchen is an awesome professional grade kitchen that’s used as a space to host groups of people to cook together, whether it be a group of friends or for a corporate team building exercise.
When I visited this weekend, we prepared an awesome array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, all incorporating tomatoes from Backyard Farms, an incredible farm that distributes their tomatoes throughout the Northeast. Their non-GMO tomatoes are incredibly fresh and delicious and grown hydroponically at their farm in Maine.
While we were preparing our dinner, we started with some light bites of cheese, lobster salad topped tomatoes, and some flatbreads. Paired with wine of course!
For a starter, we pan roasted some scallops and paired them with with a tomato ceviche.
For our main entree, we enjoyed char-grilled sirloin and made our own Backyard Farms fresh tomato ketchup to go with it. We paired the sirloin with some fingerling potatoes and a dish of tomatoes with pesto crumbs.
Finally, dessert! Can you believe we incorporated tomato into that too? We prepared a Backyard Farms "tomato fool." It was sort of like a light sugary custard or mousse, made with tomatoes (but they could've passed as strawberries if you didn't think twice about it). We topped them with some fresh nutmeg!
After all that work, we sat down in the Action Kitchen's awesome dining room, which is complete with a fireplace and a display of great wines, some of which were paired with dinner. The tables were decorated with tomatoes, of course!

What a great, lycopene-filled evening. I'm definitely hoping to get back to the Action Kitchen sometime soon, and I'll be on the lookout for Backyard Farms tomatoes next time I'm grocery shopping!
