Last weekend I went out to the suburbs to check out Il Casale, an awesome family owned Italian restaurant with locations in Belmont and Lexington Mass. Their menu features delicious Italian dishes inspired by their family’s century old recipes — dishes like butternut squash raviolis, Sicilian-Style blackened swordfish, veal saltimbocca, venetian style fried dough, and so much more. I loved the rustic vibes of high ceilings, brick walls, and their glass lanterns, at the Belmont location, which is actually built in a renovated firehouse.
We started our dinner with some wine and Il Casale’s delicious arancini and burrata.

Then for our entrees, we tried their Catch of the Day, and two delicious pastas — the tagliatelle alla Bolognese and the ravioli di zucca (butternut squash raviolis). I loved everything, but the butternut squash raviolis were definitely my favorite — a friend of mine had actually recommended them to me after she tried them at the Lexington location.

Dessert was incredibly delicious as well. I loved their rum soaked sponge cake (the “baba’ al rum”), and their amazing frittelle, which are a Venetian style fried dough, paired with chocolate sauce.
