I had an incredible dinner last week at one of my all time favorite spots, Craigie on Main, in Central Square in Cambridge. I always recommend Craigie to friends if they are looking for a special place to celebrate something, or just an awesome culinary experience. For those who don’t know, Craigie is a sister restaurant to Kirkland Tap & Trotter in Somerville, a spot I love and talk about often on this blog.
Anyway, at Craigie, my friend and I decided to do their tasting menu, which is an absolute delight, and the best way to experience everything that Craigie has to offer.
For drinks, my friend had wine, and I decided to try one of Craigie’s delicious (and beautiful!) cocktails, the Thai Basil Smash.
We started with some hamachi, which was a light and fresh way to start the meal.
Then some asparagus.
Then, a total show-stopper, this fish head. I can’t remember which type of fish it was, but it was great — one of the servers told us to make sure we got the cheek, and he was right. It was awesome.
For the fourth course, a dish of homemade pasta with confit chicken and foie gras bread crumbs. This was tied for my favorite dish with the fish.
Then, veal sweetbreads, which I admittedly had to do some research to figure out what it was. Turns out ”sweetbreads" is organ meat, specifically from the thymus and pancreas area of the calve. Woah. Anyway, this is one of the things I love about Craigie — I always leave both learning something new about food, and trying something I’ve never eaten before. For me, that’s the best.
For the next course, lamb two-ways.
Then, a little palate cleanser before dessert.
For dessert, a perfect milk chocolate crémeux with walnut ice cream. The perfect way to end our dinner!
