This Friday I had lunch at Momi Nonmi, one of my favorite new restaurants. If you haven’t heard of Momi Nonmi yet, it’s a recently opened spot in Inman Square in Cambridge serving delicious Japanese cuisine with lots of Hawaiian influences.
I had a great dinner there a few weeks ago, and went back to visit for lunch on Friday. My friend and I had an awesome dining experience.
First, we started with the chirashi bowl and the Hawaiian poke.
Then, the Shokado Bento. It’s a super impressive assortment of nine miniature bites arranged inside of a wooden box. It’s the perfect way to get a little taste of a bunch of different things.
Eating like this makes me miss Japan so much — I spent some time there in college, and I always loved getting bento boxes for lunch. The food, especially the fish, was always so fresh and the boxes came with so many different types of food — I loved trying everything.
Anyway, in addition to the Shokado Bento, we also tried their Hawaiian Loco Moco, a dish made with a grass-fed beef patty, a sunny side up egg, gravy, and rice. It came out on a hot plate and our server poured the sizzling gravy on top. It was excellent!
We also got a little taste of Momi Nonmi’s Mochiko Chicken. It’s a delicious fried chicken dish that’s very popular in Hawaii. It’s available at Momi Nonmi on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays when they serve their Late Night Menu.
Then, dessert! Which, as a note, is normally only available during dinner and late night (not lunch).
We tried and loved the raindrop-mizu shingen mochi, which is paired with Okinawan brown sugar syrup and kinako.
Then, my favorite — the Matcha shiratama zenzai made with anko, matcha and mochi.
Check out Momi Nonmi’s full menu here. They are located at 1128 Cambridge Street in Cambridge. They serve lunch, dinner, and late night. I can’t recommend it enough — it’s one of my favorite spots that I’ve visited in the past few months.
