I was so happy to check out Our Fathers this weekend. It’s a recently opened deli, bar, and restaurant in Allston serving modern Jewish cuisine. They have a full restaurant and bar that is currently serving dinner (with plans for brunch and lunch in 2018) as well as a deli open for take out all day during the week and weekend.
I visited the restaurant for dinner this weekend with my friend, and I was so impressed with the menu and their beautiful space. I especially loved that the restaurant menu includes flavors from many different Jewish traditions — serving traditional Jewish deli foods as well as incorporating foods and flavors from Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Jewish cultures.
They also has a super impressive gin-centric bar program. When I visited, I tried the French 75, a drink of gin, champagne, lemon, and sugar. It was perfectly smooth.
My friend went with the Dorothy Parker, a drink of gin, lime, grapefruit, cucumber, and rhubarb bitters. She loved it.
For starters, we went with the salatim and hummus, which came with some pickled vegetables for dipping. We also tried the spinach bourekas, the falafel, and the octopus. Everything was excellent, and I especially loved the octopus, which was so perfectly cooked and made with baba, preserved lemon, red pepper, and olive.
For our main dishes, we tried one of Our Fathers Large Plates, the Zaatar Salmon, and something from their deli menu, the #17 Hand Cut Pastrami.
Both were excellent, and I really loved the hand cut pastrami sandwich, which was complete with Ba-Tampte mustard and pickles on a twice-baked rye bread.
We paired these with a side of Brussels sprouts and the Tahdig, which is a crispy Persian rice.
And desserts are certainly not something to overlook at Our Fathers. My friend and I tried the New York Style Cheesecake and the Tahini Brownie. I loved the adorable heart-shaped spoons that we got with dessert!
