I had so much fun last weekend heading to Salem for the day with my friend. It’s so nice to have another awesome city to get away to that’s only about 20 miles north of Boston. And many of you probably know that Salem has so much more to offer than just ghost tours and history of the Salem Witch Trials (though, that is fascinating too, and I recommend exploring it — especially in the fall!). The city is also full of excellent restaurants, quaint shops, beautiful hotels, and so much more!
I had the pleasure of staying at The Merchant, an adorable hotel in Salem party of the Lark Hotels Group, and dining at a nearby restaurant, Counter, inside Hotel Salem. My friend and I also couldn’t resist a stop to Dairy Witch, an awesome local ice cream shop.
Anyway, we started by checking into our room at The Merchant and relaxing in their living room area for a bit.
Then, since we had a few hours before dinner, we decided to take a trip up the road to Dairy Witch for some ice cream. I went with a vanilla-chocolate twist with chocolate sprinkles and my friend got their special Sundae of the Week — the Cereal Thrilled made with two layers of ice cream covered in marshmallow sauce and sprinkled with cap’n crunch, Frosted Flakes, and Lucky charm marshmallows. It was definitely a sight to be seen!
Then, we headed back to the downtown Salem area and did some shopping before dinner. One of my favorite shops we checked out is HausWitch, a home shop with lots of adorable candles and art. I also loved this wonderful book store on Essex Street, Wicked Good Books.
Then, off to dinner at Counter, located inside Hotel Salem. This is a spot that I’ve been dying to check out since it opened and I saw pictures of their absolutely beautiful interior. And with their floor to ceiling windows, the natural lighting make it an Instagrammer’s heaven!
We started our dinner with some tasty cocktails, hummus, and a cheese board.
Then, a delicious cauliflower dish complete with cucumber raita, raisin, and tahini, and a beautifully plated burrata dish.
For our entrees, we went with the burger and the Bucatini pasta made with burrata, Meyer lemon, house kimchi, and cipollini onions. It was heavenly!
And for dessert, a Root beer float (throwback!), Bananas Foster, and a lovely Banana Split. Could the night have ended any better?
Afterwards we did a bit more walking around on Essex Street in Salem, and headed back to our hotel to relax.
We loved our hotel room so much we just wanted to hang out inside, and Lark Hotels always have easy connection to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and the rest — so it’s easy to watch whatever you feel like!
The next morning, an awesome breakfast at the hotel, and headed back to Boston!
