    Boston Chops Downtown Crossing

    June 28, 2018

I was so happy to check out the new Boston Chops in Downtown Crossing a few weeks ago. It’s so great to have a spot like this in Downtown Crossing. I work right by the new Boston Chops, and everyone at my office has been eagerly awaiting its opening — we definitely don’t have nearly enough restaurants in Downtown Crossing, especially nicer places and ones that can accommodate larger groups.

As I’m sure most of you know, this is the second Boston Chops location. The much adored original is located in the South End, and Chef Chris Coombs and his team have brought all of the South End favorites to downtown — their popovers, the Food & Wine Bone-In Ribeye (as featured on the cover of Food & Wine Magazine), the impressive stack of onion rings, and more.

But what this location has that’s new — not only to their second outpost, but to any restaurant (in the country!) is their Instagram-table. It’s a much discussed $10,000 table with adjustable lights. When you sit at the table you connect to an app that controls the brightness and temperature settings of the lights.

I think it’s awesome. As a food blogger who takes pictures of everything I order, it’s nice to have something that makes it exponentially easier. Rather than trying to edit the photos to increase their brightness afterwards or use my iPhone flashlight to try to get a good picture, this Instagram-table makes it so easy.

Anyway, when my friend and I visited a few weeks ago, we started with some oysters, cocktails, and their delicious popovers.

Then, some tuna tartare and a wedge salad.

For our entrées, my friend went with the Ricotta Cavatelli, and I went with the Food & Wine Bone-In Rib Eye. It was perfect in every way. For our sides (which, honestly, is usually my favorite part of steakhouse dining), we went with their impressive stack of Onion Rings with Spicy Aioli, Bacon Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and the Poutine Style Twice Baked "Loaded" Potato.

We ended the night with two of their delicious desserts, Warm Chocolate Cake and the Boston Cream Pops, a dessert made of their popovers with vanilla cream, chocolate, and crumble.

Check out the full menu at Boston Chops here. Their Downtown Location is located at 52 Temple Place. They are also now serving lunch!
